At the shelter, the two dogs had been inseparable since they arrived—brothers in every sense. The day one of them was adopted, the remaining dog cried, his whimpers echoing through the halls as he watched his brother leave. Day after day, he sat by the kennel gate, waiting for his turn, but the shelter grew quieter, and no one came for him. What happened to him after his brother’s departure was truly heartbreaking, leaving the staff and volunteers devastated by his fate.
The shelter staff began noticing that the dog’s appetite was diminishing with each passing day. Bowls of food sat untouched, and their concern started to grow. Approaching his kennel, they called gently, "Come on, boy, you need to eat," but he simply lay there, indifferent. With their best efforts, they tried to coax him into eating, but his spirit seemed to falter whenever he stared at the empty spot his brother once occupied.
Volunteers tried their best to cheer the dog up by spending extra time with him. They brought out his favorite toys, tossing them high into the air. "Come on, let's play!" they encouraged, clapping and cheering him on. Yet, each attempt was met with his withdrawn demeanor. His tail barely flickered, and he stayed curled up, as if the world around him had lost its color after his brother left.
